The LESE Pensioners’ Network 2019 Seminar will have guest speakers and Q&A sessions on loneliness and isolation in older age. Much of this is not understood, especially outside of the older community. This results in poor addressing of the issues and lack of effective solutions. We also aim to address digital isolation, whereby older folk without access to modern technologies lose out on price advantage and communication. The Seminar will address the nature of the issue, causal factors and which solutions may be available. Under imposed ‘austerity’, the key issue is resource – the will is there, the means to apply it less so.
This Seminar is open to all parties either aware of the issue or willing to address it in practical terms. Guest speakers will outline conventional and perhaps alternative options to relieve loneliness and isolation among older generations. We hope to identify examples of best local practice which can be repeated elsewhere.
The day aims to equip Seminar delegates to share ideas and/or action plans to take to their communities. We will not have all the answers but seek to open previously-invisible doors towards them.
