Equality of age of consent for gay and heterosexual men

There could be a clear majority in favour of an equal age of consent for gay and heterosexual men after the election, claims a national HIV/AIDS charity.

The George House Trust, which provides support to people living with HIV in the North West, says that so far 342 prospective parliamentary candidates have committed themselves to voting for the age of consent for gay men to be 16. If elected, they would form a mojority in favor of legislative change.

John Nicholson, director of the trust, said: “This is a tremendous result from a survey on an issue which might not be expected to gain support from parliamentary candidates.’

’Until the election actually happens, we will be encouraging members of the public to take up important issues affecting people with HIV with their own local candidates.’

The trust is also running a ‘Postcard to Parliament’ campaign: for a campaign pack phone the George House Trust on 1061 839 4340
