Organising activists

Lots of organisations are trying to use the Internet to organise political and community activity.

Some are mainly links to webpages, like the Activists Network (www.activistnetwork.org.uk, a sort of glorified telephone directory which lets users suggest new links.

Others are more ambitious. Health Voice Network (www.healthvoice-uk.net) is, like most of the sites with interactive ambitions, a membership organisation with a moderator. Once you are logged in you can enter material about events and activities, and you get regular email back about topics in which you have registered your interest.

The Commission for Public and Patient Involvement in Health are in the process of launching what they call a ‘knowledge management system (www.cppih.org/local_kms.html).

Like everything to do with the commission it is very slow and cautious, and at the time of writing access is restricted.
