SELECTING OUR NEXT PRIME MINISTER
Left Field
Aug 2nd, 2022
A question that should be put to both candidates for the next PM is why they chose to become a Member of Parliament
We know that Johnson chose because he suffers from EGOPATHY ( the look at me obsession ).This should have been detected very early in his political career as it is such an obvious characteristic and he should have been immediately excluded from further consideration.
But what about Rishi and Liz ?
A very common motive for becoming an MP it seems is as a platform for moving on to some form of very well paid employment in the private sector - recent examples are legion
What we should be looking for surely is someone who has manifested a previous career commitment to working to improve the health, wellbeing and security of the community,  where a national political role would provide a means of pursuing this more productively.
The best example of this I can give is a rather trivial personal one - as a long serving  public health practitioner it eventually dawned on me that to be more effective in promoting the levelling up strategy, which is an implicit  bedrock of public health policy, required me to become a Labour Party member and then a Labour Bristol City Councillor. In so doing I hoped to be able to  influence the Council to use some of, its many powers to strengthen the levelling up agenda in the City.
So, looking at Rishi and Liz from this perspective would one choose either of them ?
